about

A song I had written last year about a man who confronts a parent who uses religion to shame her trans child who expresses freedom and happiness post-transitioning. A little trans rights tune written from the POV of a cisperson.

lyrics

I don't see how you could frown
I don't see how you could fear
Her high flying summer dress
Her smile you haven't seen in years
Her hopscotch pep
A spring in her step
She used to want to fly the coop
Now, she's living in her truth!

I can't tell her who she is
Because she isn't who I am
What I think matters less
Than where she chooses to stand
I have no judgement
I envy her so
We all want to be ourselves all the time
If that's who we'll ever know

"I've lost my son to Satan sadly"
Good for her, she looks happy
I know that she'll be around a while
The world may take some time
But I know that you'll be fine
She will always be your precious child

Think back when you were a teen
And finding yourself
Finding a place where you fit in
Felt like hell itself
Will they take you for who you are
Or throw you in the trash?
You ask how I accept this
I'm insulted that you asked

"I've lost my son to Satan sadly"
Good for her, she looks happy
That is something I would have preferred
I might never read her
But i believe her
True is an honest woman's word
By the way, her pronouns are she/her/hers.
